GRAD RATE MEAN SAT SCORES MEAN ACT SCORE GRADUATING W/ HONORS DIPLOMA
AVON 97.4% 1124 23 25.2%
BAY VILLAGE 96.8% 1088 24 45.9%
WESTLAKE 99% 1090 24 47.6%
Avon Lake 96.2% 1118 24 27.7%
*According to the Ohio Department of Education 2007-2008 report card
I believe that the grading scale that Avon adheres to now has a direct affect on the statistics. Take a look at how many students graduated with an Honors Diploma. Avon graduates with 37% fewer students graduating with an Honors Diploma while the SAT and ACT scores are comparable. Could this be due to the grading scale?
A couple examples to put this into perspective are:
There are two runners having the exact same running capabilities competing in a race. One student has to run 93 yards while the other student has to run 90 yards in order to achieve the goal. Our Avon runner/student who ideally has the same capabilities as the other, has to play catch up and run further than the other....is this fair?
A hypothetical scenario: An Avon student attending Avon High School throughout their entire career received a 92% in every class their final GPA would be 3.0. Whereas, if that student attended Westlake, Bay Village, Midview, Avon Lake, or North Ridgeville they would graduate with a 3.67. That is .67 points higher... how is this fair?
