Avon Parents and Students for a Fair Grading Scale

REASONS TO CHANGE

  • Avon students would be on the same level playing field with our neighboring school districts like Avon Lake, Westlake, Bay Village, and North Ridgeville
  • College admissions
  • Academic/ merit scholarships
  • NCAA eligibility Athletic scholarships
  • Car Insurance premiums/ good driver discount
  • Admissions to honors programs
  • This would benefit all of Avon students; except those in the 94%-96% grade range where they would maintain their 4.0 GPA

Many universities take GPA scores directly off a student’s transcripts when evaluating students for merit scholarships.  As a result, Avon students are losing out on thousands of dollars in merit scholarships awarded to students whose school system implements the traditional 10 point system.   Therefore, our students are put at an unfair disadvantage.

Out of the top 45 Nationally recognized schools (2007) 35 High Schools use the 10 point scale.

Please keep in mind that the grading scale has NO bearing on a schools academic standards.  A vast majority of our nations very best high schools use the 10 point scale (see the 2008 Gold Medal Winner High Schools).

HERE are some other websites that I found useful please review them for yourself:

The above was the most informative site.  To find the 120 page document submitted to Dr. click on the tab "News + Press"  from the drop down menu click on "useful downloads."  The first download FCPS Final Report: Grading Policy Investigation Report.  On this site there is so many useful items and statistics.
